ROUSE, STYRES, TURKEY, BAILEY, ROTHWELL, AND DEBOER WIN ON STRICKLAND’S GMC NIGHT

by Tommy Goudge (June 27, 2014) –  139 drivers signed in to race on Strickland’s GMC “Sportsman Shootout” night at Ohsweken Speedway on Friday night. Brad Rouse, Glenn Styres, Aaron Turkey, Dave Bailey, Kyle Rothwell, and Joe DeBoer were the feature winners on another busy night at the track.

DIRTcar SPORTSMAN MODIFIEDS
Chris Bellamy started on the front row of the DIRTcar Sportsman feature along with Cody McPherson, and Bellamy took the lead and held it until lap 9, when McPherson got by. Gary Lindberg moved quickly through the field, but spun out with 5 laps to go, allowing Brad Rouse to restart behind McPherson.

McPherson had trouble getting through turn two, and Rouse pounced on the opportunity to take the lead on lap 24. Rouse took the win, followed by McPherson, BJ Willard, 17th starter Kevin Sharpe, and Charlie Lynch.

Heat races for the 24 car field were claimed by Cody McPherson, Gary Lindberg, and Brad Rouse.

CORR/PAK MERCHANDISING 360 SPRINT CARS
Steve Poirier and Chris Steele started the 360 Sprint Car feature on the front row, and Poirier took the early lead, with Steele close behind. Glenn Styres made his way to third by lap 7, and went to work catching the two drivers at the front of the field.

Steele went after Poirier and actually led lap 9 before Poirier passed him back. Steele spun two laps later, and Styres took advantage of the restart to make the winning move. He cruised to the feature win, followed by Poirier, Kyle Patrick, Todd Hoddick, and Jason Barney.

Heat races for the 22 car field were claimed by Glenn Styres, Kyle Patrick, and Todd Hoddick, while Havard Daniels won the B-Main.

STRICKLAND’S GMC CRATE SPRINT CARS
Kyle Durnin and Robbie General started the Crate Sprint Car feature at the front, but the race was red-flagged before the first lap was completed as Brad Herron and Robbie General went for wild rides in turn 4. Both were uninjured, but their cars suffered extensive damage.

Aaron Turkey took the lead when the race restarted, and survived a trip off the outside of turn four to hold off Ryan Hunsinger and win for the second week in a row. Jake Brown made a late charge, but had to settle for the runner-up spot, followed by Hunsinger, Czuba, and Josh Shantz.

Heat races for the 11 car field were claimed by Mark Czuba and Mike Thorne.

AFFORDABLE TOWING & RECOVERY THUNDER STOCKS

Tony Fraser and Jonny Lowenberg made up the front row for the Thunder Stock feature, but Melissa Miller got by both of them to lead the first lap. Miller gave way to 14th starter Dave Bailey by the time two laps were complete, while defending champ Lee Winger was also on the move, along with Billy Bleich, Jr., Dave Silverthorn, Jr., Ryan Dinning, and Chris Dickie.

Winger got by Bailey with 6 laps left, but Bailey didn’t give up. Bailey did all he could to get the lead back, but Winger held off his advances and crossed the line first, only to find that his car did not meet the minimum weight requirement during post-race technical inspection. Bailey was awarded the win, followed by Silverthorn, Dickie, Bryce Richardson, and Bleich.

Heat races for the 34 car field were claimed by Jonny Lowenberg, Jim Lampman, Dave Bailey, and Lee Winger, while Karl Sault won the B-Main.

HRW AUTOMOTIVE MINI STOCKS
Jade Pelletier and Kathi Dickie began the Mini Stock feature on the front row, but the race was barely underway when a melee exiting turn four brought out the yellow flag. Several familiar faces made their way to the front of the pack when the race restarted, along with a pair of drivers making their first Ohsweken start of the season, as Alex Schuts, Tyler Lafantaisie, and Mark Bazuin were joined by Kyle Rothwell and Jason Coutu.

Schuts eventually suffered a flat tire and crashed in turn one, while Kyle Rothwell used a last-lap restart to get by Coutu and take the feature win. Coutu settled for the runner-up spot, followed by Bazuin, Lafantaisie, and Lee Hils.

Heat races for the 30 car field were claimed by Kathi Dickie, Chris Ryckman, Mark Bazuin, and Kyle Rothwell, while Matt Nuell won the B-Main.

GALE’S AUTO AFTERMARKET BOMBERS
Tim Nuell and Gillian Hils were on the front row for what turned out to be a rough and tumble Bomber feature. Joe DeBoer eventually made his way to the front of the pack, with Max Chechalk close behind.

Joe DeBoer negotiated traffic well enough to bring home his second win of the season, while Dusty DeBoer got around Chechalk for the runner-up spot. Chechalk settled for third, followed by Ashton Reekie and Gillian Hils.

Heat races for the 18 car field were claimed by Clinton Nicholls and Joe DeBoer, while Paul Longboat won the B-Main..

DIRTCAR SPORTSMAN RETURN TO OHSWEKEN SPEEDWAY THIS FRIDAY

Ohsweken, Ontario – June 25, 2014 – Ohsweken Speedway’s 19th season of racing continues this Friday, June 27, when Strickland’s GMC presents the “Sportsman Shootout” featuring the DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds, plus Corr/Pak Merchandising 360 Sprint Cars, Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Cars, Affordable Towing & Recovery Thunder Stocks, HRW Automotive Mini Stocks, and Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Bombers.

DIRTcar SPORTSMAN MODIFIEDS
DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds return this Friday for the division’s only visit to Ohsweken this season. Formerly a weekly division at Ohsweken, the class has produced several current Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Car division regulars, including 2010 champion Dave Dykstra.

Current Humberstone Speedway points leader Gary Lindberg won last year’s Sportman Shootout at Ohsweken, and will be a favourite to win again on Friday. He has won 3 features at Humberstone already this season, plus another at Merrittville. Lindberg is one of many Sportsman division regulars from Merrittville Speedway and Humberstone Speedway expected to compete at the DIRTcar-sanctioned event at Ohsweken this Friday, including Cody McPherson, a former Ohsweken Speedway Thunder Stock champ who won the 2012 DIRTcar Sportsman Series title, and Brad Rouse, who won the 2013 DIRTcar Sportsman Series title.

Some other former Ohsweken Speedway champions will be in the Sportsman field on Friday, including 2004 and 2005 Sportsman champ Jay Mallory, 2006 Sportsman champ Rob Pratt, 2003 Mini Stock champ Robbie Rounce, and 2006 Thunder Stock champ A.J. Lewis. Ryan Turner, a former regular in Ohsweken’s Affordable Towing & Recovery Thunder Stock division, will be back racing at Ohsweken on Friday for the first time since moving to the Sportsman division. Turner won the Brock Leonard Memorial 50 last season. Several drivers who have run Mod-Lite races at Ohsweken in the past are now Sportsman division regulars planning to race on Friday, including Adam Leslie, and Joey Mastroianni.

CORR/PAK MERCHANDISING 360 SPRINT CARS
The 360 Sprint Car teams will get back to regular racing this Friday, following their challenge race with the Patriot Sprint Tour last week which paid only show-up points. Glenn Styres leads the championship standings, followed by Mitch Brown, Jim Huppunen, Chris Steele, Kyle Patrick, Dave Dykstra, Keith Dempster, Shane Ross, Todd Hoddick, and Justin Martin.

Cory Turner is 15th overall, and leads the Rookie of the Year standings by 7 points over Shawn Sliter.

STRICKLAND’S GMC CRATE SPRINT CARS
Ryan Hunsinger raced last Friday night despite suffering burns in a TQ midget event on June 14, and kept his lead in the Crate Sprint Car championship standings as a result. Jake Brown, Aaron Turkey, Tyler Hendricks, and Mike Thorne round out the current top five.

AFFORDABLE TOWING & RECOVERY THUNDER STOCKS
Wyatt Van Wart claimed his third Thunder Stock win of the season last Friday, and retook the lead in the championship standings as a result. His advantage is just one point over defending champ Lee Winger, with Billy Bleich, Jr., Karl Sault, Dave Silverthorn, Jr., Ryan Dinning, Steve Hess, Jim Lampman, Dave Bailey, and Bryce Richardson giving chase.

Chase Hess is 12th overall and leads the Rookie of the Year standings, with John Cote and Ryan Hess his nearest competitiors.

ZIMBARDI, KLAGER, TURKEY, VAN WART, LAFANTAISIE, & CHECHALK TAKE WINS ON CORR/PAK MERCHANDISING NIGHT

by Tommy Goudge (June 20, 2014) –  136 drivers signed in to race on Corr/Pak Merchandising “PST versus Corr/Pak” night at Ohsweken Speedway on Friday night. Jared Zimbardi, Paul Klager, Aaron Turkey, Wyatt Van Wart, Tyler Lafantaisie, and Max Chechalk visited Mobil 1 Victory Lane on a busy night at the track.

PATRIOT SPRINT TOUR VERSUS CORR/PAK MERCHANDISING 360 SPRINT CARS
Todd Hoddick and Alain Bergeron made up the front row for the first of three challenge events for Ohsweken’s weekly 360 Sprint Car teams against traveling Sprint Car tours this season. Bergeron led the first lap, but Jared Zimbardi blasted around the outside of both Hoddick and Bergeron before the 2nd lap was complete. Hoddick got around Bergeron and worked on chasing Zimbardi down as the leaders raced through traffic.

Jason Barney passed Bergeron for 3rd just before the halfway mark of the 25 lap feature, and used a lap 19 restart to get around Hoddick, and go after the win. Zimbardi survived a couple of restarts to take the win, while Barney fended off a hard-charging Glenn Styres for the runner-up spot. Styres took the third spot, followed by Hoddick, and 16th starter Jessica Zemken.

Heat races for the  car field were claimed by Glenn Styres, Todd Hoddick, Jason Barney, & Alain Bergeron, while Steve Collins won the “4 Laps of Fame” dash race, and Lee Ladouceur won the B-Main.

TUSA CANADA WEST MOD LITES
Derek Wagner and Josh Sliter were on the front row for the Mod Lite feature, and Wagner took off looking to add to his collection of Ohsweken trophies. Paul Klager spoiled Wagner’s party by running the New York driver down and passing him on the last lap to take the win. Wagner settled for second, followed by Jesse Hudson, Jeff May, and Dean Pronovost.

Heat races for the 15 car field were claimed by Josh Sliter and Jesse Hudson.

STRICKLAND’S GMC CRATE SPRINT CARS
Mark Czuba and Mike Thorne started the Crate Sprint Car feature on the front row, and Czuba led the first 6 laps before 6th starter Aaron Turkey moved to the lead using the outside groove, and went on to win by almost 5 seconds over Thorne, Josh Shantz, Czuba, and Jake Brown. Turkey’s time of 4:16.714 set the first track record for the new Crate Sprint Car division for the 15 lap distance.

Heat races for the 11 car field were claimed by Mark Czuba and Jake Brown.

AFFORDABLE TOWING & RECOVERY THUNDER STOCKS

Kacey Huffman and Laura Hughes started the Thunder Stock feature on the front row, and contact early in the race ended with Dale Gyokery getting the worst of it, as his car got upside down. All drivers involved were uninjured, but several cars suffered heavy damage.

The race eventually turned into a duel for the win between Wyatt Van Wart and Dave Silverthorn, Jr, as Silverthorn had taken the lead from Dave Bitner, Jr. on lap 6, with Van Wart taking over on lap 15. Silverthorn made a comeback, but fell short by just 0.044 seconds at the finish line, as Van Wart held on for the feature win. Silverthorn took the runner-up spot, followed by James Thompson, Lee Winger, and Dave Bailey.

Heat races for the 33 car field were claimed by Dave Bitner, Jr., Ryan Dinning, Karl Sault, and Wyatt Van Wart while Billy Bleich, Jr. won the B-Main.

HRW AUTOMOTIVE MINI STOCKS
Kyle Nuell and Mike Taylor were at the front for the start of the Mini Stock feature, but it didn’t take long for Alex Schuts, Tyler Lafantaisie, and Mark Bazuin to get into the top 5. Those three drivers eventually separated themselves from the rest of the field, with Lafantaisie and Schuts putting on a show, trading Sprint Car-style slide jobs at each end of the track. Lafantaisie eventually prevailed and took his third win of the season at Ohsweken, followed by Schuts, Bazuin, Steve Miller, and Robin Elliott.

Heat races for the 31 car field were claimed by Mike Taylor, Mike Evers, Robin Elliott, and Alex Schuts, while Doug Erskine won the B-Main.

GALE’S AUTO AFTERMARKET BOMBERS
Dakota Potts and Tim Nuell began the Bomber feature on the front row, but Max Chechalk and Joe DeBoer quickly got to the front. Chechalk was able to get through traffic late in the race and stay ahead for his second win in a row, followed by Joe DeBoer, Gillian Hils, Dusty DeBoer, and Ashton Reekie.

Heat races for the 15 car field were claimed by Max Chechalk and Joe DeBoer.

PATRIOT SPRINT TOUR VS. CORR/PAK MERCHANDISING SPRINT CARS THIS FRIDAY, JUNE 20

Ohsweken, Ontario – June 18, 2014 – Ohsweken Speedway’s 19th season of racing continues this Friday, June 20, when Corr/Pak Merchandising presents “Corr/Pak vs. PST” Night featuring the Patriot Sprint Tour versus Ohsweken’s Corr/Pak Merchandising 360 Sprint Cars, plus TUSA Canada West Mod Lites, Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Cars, Affordable Towing & Recovery Thunder Stocks, HRW Automotive Mini Stocks, and Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Bombers.

PATRIOT SPRINT TOUR VERSUS CORR/PAK MERCHANDISING 360 SPRINT CARS
This Friday features the first of three challenge events between regional Sprint Car tours and the drivers of Ohsweken’s Corr/Pak Merchandising 360 Sprint Car division, with challenge races also scheduled with the Southern Ontario Sprints, and Empire Super Sprints later this season.

The New York-based Patriot Sprint Tour travels to Canada this weekend, with stops at Ohsweken on Friday, and Brockville Ontario Speedway on Saturday. The opening round of the PST Canada series was rained out at Merrittville Speedway in April, so this Friday’s event will serve as the first of the tour’s Canadian stops in 2014. New York driver Jason Barney charged through the field from 17th to 1st in last year’s PST vs. Corr/Pak event at Ohsweken. Barney will be a favourite to win again this year among the list traveling drivers expected on Friday, which also includes Pennsylvania’s Jared Zimbardi, Eastern Ontario drivers Lee Ladouceur and Chris Jones, New Yorkers Scott Kreutter, Steve Collins, and Derek Jonathan, Ohio’s Paige Polyak, and Quebec drivers Alain Bergeron and Michael Parent.

Glenn Styres has won two of the four Corr/Pak division events held so far at Ohsweken in 2014, and leads the championship points standings over Mitch Brown, Jim Huppunen, May 30 feature winner Chris Steele, Kyle Patrick, Dave Dykstra, Keith Dempster, Shane Ross, Todd Hoddick, and Justin Martin. They are just a few of the regulars of the Corr/Pak division ready to defend their home turf this Friday against the invaders from the Patriot Sprint Tour, along with June 6 feature winner Jessica Zemken, and Rookie of the Year standings leader Cory Turner.

One driver who will be noticeably absent from the lineup this Friday is Mikey Kruchka, who has announced that he is stepping away from the driver’s seat of his 360 Sprint Car effective immediately. Kruchka is second in the Corr/Pak division standings, and has two runner-up finishes at Ohsweken this season.

TUSA CANADA WEST MOD LITES
This Friday’s race marks the first of 8 events on the TUSA Canada West Mod Lite series schedule for 2014, and their first of two visits to Ohsweken this year. It is also the first race in a tripleheader weekend for the tour, which will move to Merrittville Speedway on Saturday, and Humberstone Speedway on Sunday.

Beamsville’s Paul Klager and New York driver Derek Wagner are past Mod Lite feature winners at Ohsweken who are planning to race on Friday. Other drivers expected include New Yorker Jim Bogett, Ohio’s Jeff Teeters, and Eastern Ontario driver Jesse Hudson, plus Merrittville Speedway regulars such as Jeff May, Dylan Davidson, Rob Misener, Josh Sliter, Ray Sliter, Jr., Evan Leonard, and Marty deMoel.

STRICKLAND’S GMC CRATE SPRINT CARS
Opening night feature winner Ryan Hunsinger went back to Mobil 1 Victory Lane last Friday, and retook the lead in the Crate Sprint Car championship points standings as a result. His status for this Friday is up in the air though, as “The Gunslinger” suffered burns due to a broken water line during a Can-Am Midget Series event at Peterborough Speedway on Saturday. June 6 feature winner Jake Brown is second in the standings, followed by Brad Herron, Tyler Hendricks, and May 30 feature winner Aaron Turkey.

AFFORDABLE TOWING & RECOVERY THUNDER STOCKS
June 6 feature winner Lee Winger is still at the top of the Thunder Stock standings, but his lead shrunk to just 8 points over Wyatt Van Wart, who was awarded the June 13 feature win. Van Wart is second the standings, followed by Billy Bleich, Jr., Rookie of the Year standings leader Chase Hess, Bryce Richardson, Jim Lampman, Steve Hess, Karl Sault, Ryan Dinning, and Dave Silverthorn, Jr.

HRW AUTOMOTIVE MINI STOCKS
Alex Schuts broke Tyler Lafantaisie’s winning streak last Friday, but Lafantaisie finished in the runner-up spot and continues to lead the Mini Stock standings. Team 66 (Jon Janssens and Brandon Janssens) is currently second in the standings, followed by Rookie of the Year standings leader Mark Bazuin, Team 81 (Alex Schuts and Lee Hils), Jason Lungaro, Team 79 (Steve Miller and Dan Miller), Lucas Lubin, Jonathan Ayrton, Dave Goodacre, and Tim DeBoer.

GALE’S AUTO AFTERMARKET BOMBERS
Max Chechalk became the fourth different winner in four weeks of Bomber competition this season with his victory last Friday, but June 6 feature winner Dusty DeBoer continues to lead the points standings. Opening night feature winner Joe Deboer is second, followed by May 30 winner Gillian Hils, Ashton Reekie, Paul Longboat, Clinton Nicholls, Max Chechalk, Gerald Burnham, Dustin Longboat, and Dalton King.

A MESSAGE FROM JAMIE COLLARD

The following is a message from Jamie Collard, driver of the No. 7x Hills Racing Sprint Car.

“I would like to give a big thank you to all the fans, the people who donated prizes, my race team and friends who sold tickets, and all the race teams and workers at Ohsweken Speedway who helped out with the injured driver raffle. My race team raised a huge amount of money that Duane, myself, and both our families will make great use of through this tough time.

I’ve been talking to Duane Mausteller’s father, and Duane has been healing very well and has been moving around, but he is still not awake yet. I have been getting better every day, and I am getting more mobile.

It feels great to be getting back to the track these last two weeks with all my friends. Thank you everyone for all of your support, and I will see you all at the track very soon!”

STYRES, HUNSINGER, VAN WART, SCHUTS, & CHECHALK TAKE WINS ON SIX NATIONS BINGO NIGHT

by Tommy Goudge (June 13, 2014) – 109 drivers signed in to race on Six Nations Bingo night at Ohsweken Speedway on Friday, June 13. Glenn Styres, Ryan Hunsinger, Wyatt Van Wart, Alex Schuts, and Max Chechalk visited Mobil 1 Victory Lane during a fast-paced night of racing, which ended before 10:30pm.

CORR/PAK MERCHANDISING 360 SPRINT CARS
May 30 feature winner Chris Steele and opening night feature winner Glenn Styres started at the front of the 360 Sprint Car feature, and Styres used the high groove to take the early lead. Steele gave chase with Kyle Patrick and Brad Malloy close behind, but Styres had opened a healthy advantage by the time he approached traffic. Steele and Patrick both gained on the leader at times, but couldn’t get close enough to challenge.

Patrick finally got by Steele on lap 13, and began to cut into Styres’ lead again. Patrick was within striking distance when Justin Martin spun in front of him. Martin was able to keep going, but the disruption was enough for Styres to get away and win by 0.671 seconds over Patrick. Styres set a new track record for the 20 lap distance in his second win of the season, followed by Patrick, Steele, Jessica Zemken, and Mitch Brown.

Heat races for the 22 car field were claimed by Glenn Styres, Kyle Patrick, and Todd Hoddick, while Jamie Turner won the B-Main.

STRICKLAND’S GMC CRATE SPRINT CARS
Mark Czuba and Paul Lang started at the front of the Crate Sprint Car field for the 4th feature event in the new division’s history. Czuba led the first lap before Lang took over, while opening night winner Ryan Hunsinger moved from 11th to 6th by lap 3.

The race was red-flagged on lap 4 when Jake Brown made contact with Robbie General, and flipped in turn 2. The June 6 winner was uninjured, but the same could not be said for his car. Hunsinger quickly moved up to 2nd after the restart, but the race was slowed again when Kyle Durnin hit the frontstretch wall and broke his front axle on lap 7.

Hunsinger took over at the front shortly after the restart, and led the final 8 laps of the race to get his second win of the season. Tyler Hendricks was gaining quickly at the end of the race, but had to settle for the runner-up spot, followed by Lang, Aaron Turkey, and Brad Herron.

Heat races for the 11 car field were claimed by Aaron Turkey and Paul Lang.

AFFORDABLE TOWING & RECOVERY THUNDER STOCKS
Derek Liverance and Dave Bitner, Jr. were the front row starters in the Thunder Stock feature, and Bitner took the early lead. Dave Bailey moved from 10th to 3rd on the first lap, and up to 2nd on the next circuit, but row 9 starter Wyatt Van Wart got by Bailey 2 laps later.

Bitner’s lead lasted until lap 6, when Van Wart took over at the front. Bailey took over the second spot from Bitner on the next lap, and began to put pressure on Van Wart. Bitner and Lee Winger made contact on lap 9, resulting in a spin for Bitner. A small fire under his hood was quickly extinguished by the safety crew, but Bitner’s race was done. Track officials decided to send Winger to the rear of the field for the restart as a result of the incident, and he eventually recovered to finish 8th.

James Thompson and Billy Bleich, Jr. took advantage of the caution period, and marched through the field when the race restarted. Thompson moved up to 2nd at the halfway mark, with Bleich close behind. Thompson took the lead on lap 13 and went on to cross the finish line first for the second time in the last 3 weeks, but his car did not pass the post-race technical inspection. Wyatt Van Wart was awarded the win as a result, followed by Bleich, Bailey, Bryce Richardson, and Karl Sault.

Heat races for the 35 car field were claimed by Dave Bitner, Jr., John Cote, Steve Hess, and Billy Bleich, Jr., while Ryan Dinning won the B-Main.

HRW AUTOMOTIVE MINI STOCKS
Kyle Nuell and Mike Giberson made up the front row for the Mini Stock feature, but Alex Schuts moved up quickly from his 12th starting spot to take the lead. Several drivers came from deep in the pack to race for top 5 starting spots, but Schuts was too far ahead for anyone to mount a challenge.

There were a few wild moments along the way, but the Mini Stock feature ran caution flag-free for the second week in a row. Schuts took his first win of the season, followed by Tyler Lafantaisie, Lucas Lubin, Jon Janssens, and rookie driver Chris Ryckman.

Heat races for the 29 car field were claimed by Chris Ryckman, Kathi Dickie, and Jon Janssens, while Matt Nuell won the B-Main.

GALE’S AUTO AFTERMARKET BOMBERS
Dakota Potts and Max Chechalk started the Bomber feature on the front row, and Chechalk took the early lead. Opening night winner Joe DeBoer quickly made his way to the second spot from row four, but Chechalk finally had some luck go his way, and got through traffic to take his first win of the season. DeBoer settled for the runner-up spot, followed by Gerald Burnham, Dusty DeBoer, and Ashton Reekie.

Heat races for the 12 car field were claimed by Max Chechalk and Joe DeBoer.

SIX NATIONS BINGO NIGHT THIS FRIDAY, JUNE 13

Ohsweken, Ontario – June 10, 2014 –  Ohsweken Speedway’s 19th season of racing continues this Friday, June 13, when Six Nations Bingo presents weekly racing featuring the Corr/Pak Merchandising 360 Sprint Cars, Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Cars, Affordable Towing & Recovery Thunder Stocks, HRW Automotive Mini Stocks, and Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Bombers.

CORR/PAK MERCHANDISING 360 SPRINT CARS
The 360 Sprint Car standings tightened up after last Friday’s feature win by Jessica Zemken, as just 8 points separate the top four drivers. Mikey Kruchka leads the way, with opening night winner Glenn Styres 7 points behind, followed by Jim Huppunen and Mitch Brown, who are both just 1 point behind Styres. May 30 feature winner Chris Steele rounds out the top five.

STRICKLAND’S GMC CRATE SPRINT CARS
The Crate Sprint Car championship standings mirror last Friday’s photo finish between Jake Brown and Ryan Hunsinger, as Brown leads Hunsinger by just one point heading into this Friday’s event. Brad Herron, Robbie General, and Tyler Hendricks round out the current top five.

AFFORDABLE TOWING & RECOVERY THUNDER STOCKS
Lee Winger won the Thunder Stock championship last season, and has taken over atop the championship points standings again after his first feature win of 2014 last Friday. Opening night winner Wyatt Van Wart is now second in the standings, followed by Rookie of the Year standings leader Chase Hess, Billy Bleich, Jr., and Jim Lampman.

HRW AUTOMOTIVE MINI STOCKS
Tyler Lafantaisie is enjoying weekly racing at Ohsweken so far. An occasional visitor in past seasons, Lafantaisie has competed in all three rounds of the 2014 season, recording a 2nd place finish on opening night, and following that with feature wins in each of the last two weeks. Team 66 (Jon Janssens and Brandon Janssens) is currently second in the standings, followed by Team 79 (Steve Miller and Dan Miller), Rookie of the Year standings leader Mark Bazuin, and Jason Lungaro.

GALE’S AUTO AFTERMARKET BOMBERS
2013 champion Dusty DeBoer went to Mobil 1 Victory Lane for the first time this season last Friday. That win and runner-up finishes in each of the first two weeks has DeBoer on top of the Bomber championship points standings. He’s being chased by May 30 winner Gillian Hils, and May 23 winner Joe DeBoer, while Ashton Reekie and Paul Longboat also have spots in the top five.

ZEMKEN, BROWN, WINGER, LAFANTAISIE & DEBOER WIN ON ROCHESTER KNIGHTHAWKS NIGHT

by Tommy Goudge (June 6, 2014) – 110 drivers signed in to race on Rochester Knighthawks night at Ohsweken Speedway on Friday, June 6, 2014. Jessica Zemken, Jake Brown, Lee Winger, Tyler Lafantaisie, and Dusty DeBoer were the drivers standing in Mobil 1 Victory Lane as feature winners

CORR/PAK MERCHANDISING 360 SPRINT CARS
Jim Huppunen and Chris Steele made up the front row for the 360 Sprint Car feature, and Huppunen took the lead with Steele, Dave Dykstra, Jessica Zemken, and Mikey Kruchka giving chase. Zemken drove around both Steele and Dykstra on lap 8, and set her sights on Huppunen, who was working to get through traffic.

The two drivers raced hard for the win through some treacherous track conditions, but Zemken eventually prevailed. The Sprakers, New York resident made her move on lap 16, and went on to win by 1.439 seconds over Huppunen, Steele, Dykstra, and Mitch Brown.

The race went non-stop without a caution flag, with Zemken setting a new track record for the 20 lap distance. The win was her first at Ohsweken, and made her the 64th different driver to record a Sprint Car feature win at the track.

Heat races for the 22 car field were claimed by Mikey Kruchka, Glenn Styres, and Jim Huppunen, while Kyle Patrick won the B-Main.

STRICKLAND’S GMC CRATE SPRINT CARS

Josh Shantz and Mike Thorne were on the front row to start the Crate Sprint Car feature, but Jake Brown and Ryan Hunsinger charged through the field quickly, with Brown taking the lead from Shantz on lap 4.

Brown ran the middle groove through some of the roughest sections of the track in turns one and two for much of the race, while Hunsinger worked the low groove and tried to avoid the bumps. The two opposing strategies created one of the best races of the Ohsweken season so far, with Brown and Hunsinger officially swapping the lead 4 times in 11 laps.

It appeared that Hunsinger might be headed for his second win of the season, but Brown found a smooth line through turns one and two on the last lap. The two raced side-by-side to the finish line, with Brown winning by just 0.113 seconds. Hunsinger settled for the runner-up spot, followed by Josh Shantz, Mike Thorne, and Brad Herron.

Heat races for the 11 car field were claimed by Josh Shantz and Aaron Turkey.

AFFORDABLE TOWING & RECOVERY THUNDER STOCKS

The Thunder Stock feature began with Dave Bitner, Jr. and Jamie Hyzca on the front row, but it quickly turned into a side-by-side race between May 30 feature winner James Thompson, and 2013 champ Lee Winger.

They swapped the lead several times before a caution flag came out on lap 12, and Thompson was assessed a two position penalty by officials who determined he had jumped a restart earlier in the race.

Thompson quickly got back to the second spot, but Winger stayed ahead and claimed the win, followed by Thompson, Bryce Richardson, Chase Hess, and Billy Bleich, Jr.

Heat races for the  car field were claimed by Dave Bitner, Jr., Chase Hess, Dave Silverthorn, Jr., and Lee Winger, while Ryan Dinning won the B-Main.

HRW AUTOMOTIVE MINI STOCKS
Robin Elliott and Mike Giberson started the Mini Stock feature on the front row, as original polesitter Chantelle Hyatt opted to start at the back of the field. Elliott took off and built a big lead, but 18th starter Tyler Lafantaisie eventually reeled him in and went on to his second consecutive win at Ohsweken.

Jason Lungaro and Brandon Janssens also made their way to the front from deep in the field to claim second and third, followed by Elliott, and Steve Miller.

Heat races for the 28 car field were claimed by Robin Elliott, Jason Lungaro, and Lucas Lubin, while Brandon Janssens won the B-Main.

GALE’S AUTO AFTERMARKET BOMBERS
Dustin Longboat and Max Chechalk started the Bomber feature at the front, and Chechalk led early in what turned out to be a wild race. Chechalk’s string of bad luck continued, as he suffered a flat right front tire.

Dusty DeBoer made his way to the front from the 11th starting spot and went on to the feature win, followed by Paul Longboat, Gerald Burnham, Ashton Reekie, and Dustin Longboat.

Heat races for the 15 car field were claimed by Max Chechalk and Joe DeBoer.
