WORLD OF OUTLAWS CRAFTSMAN SPRINT CAR SERIES RETURNS JULY 26 WITH KASEY KAHNE!

by Tommy Goudge (July 24, 2016) – Ohsweken, Ontario – The Arrow Express Six Nations Showdown featuring the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car series returns to Ohsweken Speedway on Tuesday, with NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne in competition.

Arrow Express is again the presenting sponsor of the Six Nations Showdown on Tuesday, July 26, which will feature the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car series, plus DIRTcar 358 Modifieds, and HRW Automotive Mini Stocks.

With 900+ horsepower 410 cubic inch engines and some of the best drivers in the world, the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car series is the world’s premier winged Sprint Car series. The 2016 WoO schedule includes 93 events at 58 different tracks across 26 American states and one Canadian province. The tour’s visit to Ohsweken is preceded by Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and followed by events at Hartford, Michigan on Friday, and Wilmot, Wisconsin on Saturday. Tuesday’s event at Ohsweken is also the only Canadian race on the 2016 schedule.

North Dakota’s Donny Schatz leads the WoO tour into Ohswken in search of his 8th series championship. Other drivers chasing WoO championship points this season include California driver Brad Sweet, Connecticut’s David Gravel, Oklahoma drivers Daryn Pittman and Shane Stewart, Indiana’s Joey Saldana, Louisiana’s Jason Johnson, Tennessee drivers Paul McMahan and Jason Sides, and Pennsylvanians Logan Schuchart and Jacob Allen.

Along with Kahne who claimed a 410 Sprint Car win at Pennsylvania’s Lincoln Speedway in March, several regional racers are expected to test their mettle against the traveling Outlaws, including Indiana driver Parker Price-Miller, Pennsylvania’s Jared Zimbardi, and Ohioan Paige Polyak. Hometown drivers such as Alex Hill will also be on hand, and Hill will be making both her World of Outlaws and 410 Sprint Car debut.

The World of Outlaws Sprint Car series has competed at Ohsweken on 10 occasions dating back to 2007. Last year’s Six Nations Showdown was a thriller, as Stewart Friesen went to victory lane after a race which featured 5 lead changes. Jason Sides won the first World of Outlaws event at Ohsweken on July 25, 2007, and also recorded wins at Ohsweken in 2009 and 2010. Jason Meyers also won at Ohsweken in 2009, while Donny Schatz was a winner in 2010, 2013, and 2014, and Tony Stewart took the checkered flag in both 2011, and 2012.

The Six Nations Showdown also includes the only DIRTcar 358 Modified race at Ohsweken in 2016, and Twin 15 lap races for the HRW Automotive Mini Stocks.

The “Small Block” Modified race will pay the feature winner $1,500, and count towards the 358 Modified Mr. DIRTcar championship, which takes into account a driver’s best 16 finishes between January 1st and Labour Day. Points standings and other information on the Mr. DIRTcar championship is available at www.DIRTcar.com

Brandon Janssens holds a slim one point lead over Brandon Crumbie in the Mini Stock championship standings heading into Tuesday’s unique Twin 15 event.

Racing will take the green flag at 7:30pm on Tuesday, July 26, preceded by time trials. Visit the official Ohsweken Speedway website at www.OhswekenSpeedway.com for ticket prices and more information.

by Tommy Goudge (July 24, 2016) – Ohsweken, Ontario – The revamped Northern Crate Nationals will take to the track on Monday night at Ohsweken Speedway, with NASCAR’s Kasey Kahne in competition.

The Burger Barn Northern Crate Nationals on Monday, July 25 will feature the first ever visit of the Race of Champions (RoC) Sportsman Tour Modifieds to Ohsweken, plus the Go Nuclear! Late Model series, Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Cars, Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Cars, and Affordable Towing & Recovery Thunder Stocks. The event will also include a crate engine giveaway thanks to Strickland’s GMC; Anyone in any division racing at Ohsweken with a crate engine in their car that night will be eligible for the draw.

Kasey Kahne will compete in the Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Car division on Monday, and come back on Tuesday to race in the Arrow Express Six Nations Showdown featuring the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series. The 36 year old Enumclaw, Washington native has 17 NASCAR Sprint Cup series wins on his resume. Kahne’s career began on dirt tracks in the Pacific Northwest, and he has never forgotten his roots. Following success in Sprint Cars and Midgets – including a USAC National Midget series championship in 2000 – Kahne made his debut in what was then called the NASCAR Nextel Cup series in 2004. He stays involved with dirt track racing through his ownership of Kasey Kahne Racing, which fields World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car series entries for Daryn Pittman and Brad Sweet. Despite limited time away from NASCAR, Kahne is still competitive on the dirt track circuit; his most recent Sprint Car victory came at Pennsylvania’s Lincoln Speedway on March 26.

Brad Rouse of St. Catharines, Ontario leads the championship standings heading into the first ever RoC Sportsman Modified tour event at Ohsweken. Rouse will face stiff competition from local drivers such as former Ohsweken Speedway Thunder Stock champ Cody McPherson, as well as invaders such as New York’s Andrew Smith, who recently collected his 10th win of the season. More info on the RoC tour is available at www.rocmodifiedseries.com

The Go Nuclear! Late Model series will race at Ohsweken for the second time on Monday, returning after a successful first visit in June last season. Charlie Sandercock is the current points leader for the series. The Trenton, Ontario driver set the track record in time trials in last season’s Ohsweken event, and drove from 12th to finish 2nd in the A-Feature behind 13th starter Darren Peters. More info on the Go Nuclear! Late Model series is available at www.gonuclearlatemodelseries.com

Ohsweken’s own Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Cars, Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Cars, and Affordable Towing & Recovery Thunder Stocks complete the full card of racing, with the Thunder Stocks running special Twin 15 lap A-Features. Mitch Brown leads the 360 standings, while Jesse McDonald took over the Crate points lead on Friday, and Karl Sault is the latest driver atop the Thunder Stock standings.

Racing will take the green flag at 7:30pm on Monday, July 25. Visit the official Ohsweken Speedway website at www.OhswekenSpeedway.com for ticket prices and more information.

KOOL KIDZ-CORR/PAK 360 SPRINT CARS (23 entries)
The 360 Sprint Car teams were busy with their regularly-scheduled event, plus began their racing portion of the evening by making up the 20 lap A-Feature which was rained out on July 8.

Dylan Westbrook used his pole position earned on July 8 to lead every lap of the makeup A-Feature, although Dave Dykstra did his best to get through traffic and keep the leader in sight. Westbrook was able to stay up front and claim his second consecutive Ohsweken win, while Dykstra settled for the runner-up spot. Alex Hill scored her first ever 360 Sprint Car podium finish, while Jake Brown and Dain Naida rounded out the top five.

Ryan Turner led the first lap of the regularly-scheduled A-Feature, but Jim Huppunen quickly took the lead and led the remaining 19 laps. Paulie Colagiovanni looked to be mounting a challenge for the lead early in the race, but his momentum was broken when he scraped the backstretch wall in traffic. The win was the Huppunen’s first since 2013, while Mitch Brown moved up to take a runner-up finish, followed by Colagiovanni, Glenn Styres, and 14th starter Dave Dykstra.

Mitch Brown continues to lead the championship standings, but the rest of the top five was shaken up. Rookie of the Year candidate Dylan Westbrook is now 40 points behind Brown and 2nd overall, while Dave Dykstra is just 1 point behind Westbrook.

Westbrook started on the front row and led all 20 laps en route to the win, while Steve Collins moved up steadily to claim the runner-up spot. Defending 360 champ Glenn Styres settled for third, while Chris Steele charged from 12th to 4th, and Cory Turner rounded out the top five after racing in the top three earlier in the race.

Mitch Brown dropped from the pole position to finish 6th, but still leads the championship standings by 30 points over Cory Turner. Dylan Westbrook is 4th overall and leads the Rookie of the Year standings by 12 points over Jake Brown.

Dick settled for the runner-up spot, while Clayton Smith spent almost the entire race fending off challenges from several drivers for the 3rd position. Smith prevailed to take the final podium spot, followed by Brian Speelman, and Louis Clements.

The UMP Modifieds will return to Ohsweken on Friday, September 9 when Tirecraft Ontario presents Monster Truck Mayhem featuring Overkill Evolution & Black Stallion, plus Crate Sprint Cars, Thunder Stocks, Mini Stocks, and Bombers.

STRICKLAND’S GMC PRESENTS KEN SCHRADER, UMP MODIFIEDS, & SPONSOR NIGHT JULY 15

by Tommy Goudge (July 12, 2016) – Ohsweken, Ontario – Ohsweken Speedway’s 21st season of racing continues this Friday, July 15 when Strickland’s GMC presents Ken Schrader, UMP Modifieds, a full weekly racing card, and the track’s annual Sponsor Night activities.

The UMP (United Midwestern Promoters) Modified division is a fixture at hundreds of North American dirt tracks including South Buxton Raceway, but Ontario’s UMP drivers rarely venture east of the Chatham-area facility. Anticipation is high among the drivers and teams, and many will be racing at Ohsweken for the first time. The first and only UMP Modified event at Ohsweken to date was held on June 19, 2009 when Tim Richardson took the A-Feature win. Richardson will be part of a large and competitive field this Friday; at least 24 UMP Modified teams were on their way to Ohsweken last September before wet weather intervened. (Competitors note: One driver and one crew member from each UMP Modified team will be admitted to the pits at the Ohsweken member price on Friday by presenting their South Buxton Raceway membership credentials at the pit sign-in booth.)

Ken Schrader will bring his own UMP Modified to race at Ohsweken in the July 15 event, following a corporate event at the track earlier in the week. His first and only Ohsweken visit to date came in 2009, when he scored an 8th place finish in the World of Outlaws Late Model Series “Six Nations 50”. The 60 year old from Fenton, Missouri is known for the wide variety of racing divisions in which he has competed and seen success. Before making his debut in what is now the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in 1984, Schrader claimed the USAC Silver Crown series championship in 1982, and the USAC National Sprint Car series championship in 1983. He later became the first driver to win in all three of NASCAR’s major series, and started 763 Sprint Cup Series events before “retiring” in 2013. Ken Schrader Racing Inc. now fields entries in the ARCA series, and in various dirt modified events. Schrader himself still competes in more than 70 races each season, mostly in dirt modifieds, and claimed 5 feature wins last year.

Each registered 2016 race team will have the opportunity to provide free passes to their sponsors to attend the races on Friday. Teams interested in this event can contact General Manager Clinton Geoffrey at clinton@ohswekenspeedway.com for more information, and fill out the application form by clicking on the following link: http://ohswekenspeedway.ca/?page_id=4933

The UMP Modifieds will join Ohsweken’s weekly racing divisions, including the Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Cars, Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Cars, Affordable Towing & Recovery Thunder Stocks, HRW Automotive Mini Stocks, and Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Bombers. An average of 119 drivers have signed in for each of the first 8 rounds of Ohsweken’s 2016 season. Racing will take the green flag at 7:30pm this Friday, July 15. Visit the official Ohsweken Speedway website at www.OhswekenSpeedway.com for ticket prices and more information.
