by Tommy Goudge (August 26, 2015) – Ohsweken, Ontario – Ohsweken Speedway’s 20th season of racing continues this Friday, August 28 when Best Western Cairn Croft Hotel and Grand River Powersports present the rescheduled Art Hill Memorial Night. The event will feature the “Art Hill Memorial 42” for HRW Automotive Mini Stocks, plus Corr/Pak Merchandising 360 Sprint Cars, Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Cars, Affordable Towing & Recovery Thunder Stocks, and Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Bombers.
The annual “Art Hill Memorial 42” is the biggest, longest, and highest-paying event of the season for Ohsweken’s Mini Stock racers, with a feature race more than twice the distance of their regular races, and a $1,000 winner’s prize on the line.
The race honours Art Hill, who suffered a fatal brain aneurysm while competing in his No. 42 machine at Ohsweken in 1999. Past Art Hill Memorial winners include well-known Ohsweken names such as Rick Emberson, Lee Winger, Robbie Rounce, Marc Hallett, Dave Bailey, Mitch Brown, Trevor Goulding, Abel Castelein, and Karl Sault.
Mark Bazuin won the 2014 Art Hill Memorial 42, and will attempt to become the first back-to-back winner of the event since Mitch Brown accomplished the feat in 2008 and 2009.
This Friday’s event will also serve as the Corr/Pak Merchandising 360 Sprint Car division’s qualifying event for the Dave MacLeod Memorial Shootout coming up on Friday, September 18 during Canadian Sprint Car Nationals weekend.
An average of 130 drivers have signed in for each night of the 2015 season so far at Ohsweken, with the 5 weekly racing series divisions producing 32 different feature winners. Racing will take the green flag at 7:30pm this Friday, August 28. Visit the official Ohsweken Speedway website at www.OhswekenSpeedway.com for ticket prices and more information.
