OHSWEKEN, Ont. (September 12, 2025) – Nitro 54 Variety, Sit ‘N’ Bull Tires, and Arrow Express presented the 4th Running of the Northern Crate Nationals at Ohsweken Speedway on Friday; Jesse Costa took the $5,000 A-Main win for the Crate Sprint Cars, while Jordan Poirier, DJ Christie, Brock Gregory, and Rogan Monaghan also took wins in their respective divisions.

Northern Crate Nationals Crate Sprint Cars
Eric Gledhill earned the pole position with Jesse Costa next to him on the front row for the 35 lap Northern Crate Nationals A-Main. Gledhill managed to lead the opening lap until Costa made his pass for the lead on lap two. Costa set sail and quickly drove away from the rest of the field; Costa had a 2.2 second lead over Gledhill by lap eight. Meanwhile, visiting drivers Andrew Hennessy and Josh Verne Jr were battling it out for the final podium spot.

Lap ten saw Costa navigating through heavy traffic with magnificent precision, maintaining his gap over teammate Gledhill. The race ran caution-free with drivers using every inch of the slick surface, showcasing the phenomenal talent of the field. Costa went on to win in dominant fashion, as he put 21 drivers at least one lap down and finished more than seven seconds ahead of runner-up Gledhill.

Hennessy found himself in the final podium position after his battle with Verne. Rounding out the top ten were Verne in fourth, Jacob Dykstra fifth, Lucas Smith sixth, Bruno Richard seventh, Austin Roes eighth, Ryan Fraser ninth, and Cameron Thomson tenth. Holly Porter was fastest in time trials with a lap of 14.808 seconds. Costa’s time of 10:20.582 established a 35 lap track record for Crate Sprint Cars.

360 Sprint Car NSCN Twin 15’s
Davie Franek and Jordan Poirier brought the field to the green flag for the first of the Twin 15’s for the 360 Sprint Cars. Franek enjoyed his early lead until Poirier passed him on lap three. Alex Therrien also followed through the open door, relegating Franek to third on the same lap. Poirier and Therrien battled between traffic all the way to the finish but it was Poirier who crossed the finish first, besting his fellow Quebecer. The victory was Poirier’s first win at Ohsweken. Therrien finished a close second, with Darren Dryden in third. The rest of the top five were Franek in fourth and Baily Heard fifth.

The second of the Twin 15’s had DJ Christie and Liam Matin on the front row. Christie led the opening lap over Martin with a healthy lead. With seven laps left to go, Christie could be found slicing through traffic like a surgeon. Christie proved to be untouchable as he led every lap to claim his first 360 Sprint Car victory at Ohsweken. Next to finish were Martin in second, Skyler Evans third, Nick Sheridan fourth, and Josh Hansen fifth.

The wins guaranteed Poirier and Christie top ten starting positions in Saturday’s $30,000-to-win Northern Sprint Car Nationals A-Main.

Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks
Brock Gregory started on pole alongside Kyle Wert to take the green flag for the 20 lap Thunder Stock A-Main. Gregory led the opening two laps as 2025 Thunder Stock champ Ryan Beagle claimed the lead for himself on lap three. Robbie General brought out the caution flag when he spun out in turn two on lap five. This caution flag bunched the field and bred three more cautions in a span of eight laps. This was an advantage to Gregory, as each restart was like a practice session on how to get around Beagle, the two-time Northern Thunder Stock Nationals winner.

With knowledge gained, Gregory sailed past Beagle for the lead with six laps left to go. Beagle tried to regain the lead, but his efforts proved futile as Gregory went onto win the race, becoming just the third different driver to win a Thunder Stock A-Main this year following the dominant season of Beagle and Dave Bailey. Finishing the top five were Kyle Wert in third, Bailey fourth, and Mike Klazinga fifth.

Insta-Insulation Mini Stocks
The front row of the grid featured Mason Anderson and Rogan Monaghan to begin the 15 lap Mini Stock A-Main. Monaghan led the first five laps with ease until debris on the track brought the caution flag out. Brian Wilson Jr. got the better of Monaghan on the restart, however Monaghan quickly bounced back to regain the lead on the next lap.

Monaghan went on to win the race on his own merit, proving to everyone that he could win the race on the track; his first win earlier in the season came about due to another driver’s disqualification. Wilson had to settle for second after having a quick taste of the lead, with Alex Riley claiming the final podium step. Rounding out the top five were Wayde Thorne in fourth and Jeremy Cooper fifth.
