OHSWEKEN, Ont. (September 18, 2026) – Flamboro Machine Shop & Connell’s Construction presented the 5th Running of the Northern Crate Nationals at Ohsweken Speedway on Friday; Jesse Costa took the $15,000 A-Main win for the Crate Sprint Cars, while Alex Therrien, Parker Price Miller, Dave Bailey, and Gillian Hils also took wins in their respective divisions.
Northern Crate Nationals Crate Sprint Cars
Jesse Costa earned the pole position with Adam Turner next to him on the front row for the 35 lap Northern Crate Nationals A-Main. Costa led the opening laps, leading by over a second until a red flag was thrown on lap three as Mike Bowman flipped on turn one after contact with AJ Lewis. Bowman was unharmed but had to retire from the race after sustaining too much damage to carry on.
The restart of the race saw another red flag as Adam Turner lost brakes on the back stretch, hurdling straight into the outside wall of turn three. Turner too was also unharmed, retiring from the race. Costa resumed his lead once again as he took the green flag on the restart. The green flag racing was cut short as Kiana Teal came to a stop on the back stretch with a flat front left tire after contacting the inside wall.
Costa led the field to the restart, setting a pace that couldn’t be matched. Lap traffic came into play as the laps ticked down, but they were a minor inconvenience for Costa as he lapped down to thirteenth place. Steve Murdock managed to close the gap to Costa in the last few laps, but it wasn’t enough to make a difference as Costa went onto lead every single lap, winning his second Northern Crate Nationals in back to back years. Murdock finished in second with Liam Martin in third to finish the podium. The rest of the top ten were Cooper Fritz in fourth, Keegan Baker fifth, Austin Roes sixth, Josh Verne Jr. seventh, Lee Ladouceur eighth, Jeremy May ninth, and Johnny Miller tenth.
360 Sprint Car NSCN Twin 15’s
Dylan Swiernik and Alex Therrien brought the field to the green flag for the first of the Twin 15’s for the 360 Sprint Cars. Swiernik enjoyed his lead until he made a mistake on lap four, driving too high off turn four, allowing Therrien to grab the lead. Swiernik tried to mount a comeback to no avail as Therrien drove away with the clean air, picking up the victory and redemption from where he finished second last year. Rounding out the top five were Dylan Westbrook second, Swiernik third, Jordan Poirier fourth, and Skyler Evans fifth.
The second of the Twin 15’s had Danny Varin and Price Miller Parker on the front row. Varin took off like a rocket leading the opening laps. No one had anything for Varin as he was in front by over five seconds. With three laps to go it looked like Varin was going to lock himself into the big race until he spun out in the lead bringing out the caution. Parker assumed the lead, winning the race in the final laps. Next to finish were Jason Barney in second, DJ Christie third, Davie Franek fourth, and Josh Hansen fifth.
The wins guaranteed Therrien and Parker top ten starting positions in Saturday’s $20,000-to-win Northern Sprint Car Nationals A-Main.
Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks
Carter Rhodes started on pole alongside Dave Bailey to take the green flag for the 20 lap Thunder Stock A-Main. Bailey took over the lead on the opening lap as the rest of the field jockeyed for position.
Garren Taylor brought out the only caution of the race has he came to a stop on the track. Bailey went back to work as he had a successful restart. Ryan Kimball and Ryan Beagle tried to chase the leader down, but Bailey’s pace was strong as he went to win the race after leading every lap. Rounding out the top five were Kimball in second, Beagle third, Carter Rhodes fourth, and Kyle Wert fifth.
Insta-Insulation Mini Stocks
The front row of the grid featured Tim DeBoer and Gillian Hils to begin the 15 lap Mini Stock A-Main. DeBoer led the first nine laps until the caution flag came out due to a crash on the back stretch.
The restart set up a six lap dash to the finish that saw DeBoer and Hils get a fantastic launch over the field. They both battled for the lead, however, Hils made the race winning pass with three laps left to go, earing the victory. DeBoer settled for second, while the rest of the top five were Dusty DeBoer in third, Alexander Klotz fourth, and Chase Mitchell fifth.
