OHSWEKEN, Ont. (August 29, 2019) – Ohsweken Speedway officials are pleased to announce the Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Performer of the Week for August 23 is Dave Bailey and the No.49 Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stock team. The weekly award showcases a driver or team that exhibits outstanding effort and performance during the Friday Night Excitement events at Ohsweken Speedway.
Jeff Roelofs and Derek Liverance started on the front row to bring the field to green for the 50-Lap $2000 to win Gales Cash Blast feature. Roelofs jumped to the early lead over Liverance and Go Fast Teeple, with Mark Bauzin and Ryan Dinning close behind.
Roelofs maintained the early lead but was challenged on Lap 4 when Dave Bailey, who had started in the 18th position had raced into second and was tracking Roelofs for the lead. Bailey drove past Roelofs on Lap 5 for the lead with Roelofs, Mark Bauzin, Ryan Dinning and Ken Sargent in hot pursuit.
A restart on Lap 9 saw Bailey and Dinning facing off with Dinning taking over the lead and retaining it despite a caution on Lap 13. Bailey and Dinning put on a show as they continued to battle side by side for several laps through another caution and restart.
Dinning ran the inside while Bailey used the outside line and the lead was exchanged between the them until Bailey successfully used the outside line to entrench himself in first and began to put distance between himself and Dinning. Logan Shwedyk, Sargent and Trevor DeBoer were racing hard as they battled for the remaining top five spots.
Bailey was smooth and fast as he manoeuvred the lapped traffic and soon had a straightaway lead over the rest of the field. Bailey handily wheeled his Brewster Baker Camaro to the double checkers to claim the $2000 purse and the victory with Logan Shwedyk, Ryan Dinning, Ken Sargent and Trevor DeBoer rounding out the top 5.
