OHSWEKEN, Ont. (June 23, 2022) – The 25th season of Friday Night Excitement at Ohsweken Speedway continues this Friday, June 24 when Gale’s Auto Aftermarket presents the Gale’s Cash Blast 50 for the Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stock division, plus Friday Night Excitement with the Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Cars, Strickland’s Crate Sprint Cars, and HRW Automotive Mini Stocks.
Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks
Dave Bailey leads the Thunder stock championship standings after three rounds, but just 26 points separate the top five heading into their first 50 lap event of the season; Ryan Beagle, Chris Hale, Trevor DeBoer, and Mike Klazinga are Bailey’s closest competitors, while Kyle Wert scored his first career Thunder Stock win last Friday. Endurance and patience are the name of the game this week though as the Thunder Stock drivers will race more than twice their regular distance and contend with handicapping for the first time this season.
Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak Sprint Cars
Cory Turner took the win last Friday and assumed the championship points lead as a result. Turner and brother Ryan have asserted themselves as title contenders, but a host of competitors are ready to challenge them. A trio of Crate Sprint Car graduates – Josh Hansen, Aaron Turkey, and Liam Martin – are giving chase, while former track champs Glenn Styres and Jim Huppunen are lurking just outside the top five in the standings.
Strickland’s Crate Sprint Cars
Darren Dryden has won both Crate Sprint Car events to start the season and leads the championship standings as a result. Eric Gledhill, Lucas Smith, Brett Stratford, and Jesse Costa have used consistency to occupy the remainder of the top five, and headline a large group of drivers who are capable of stopping Dryden’s streak this week.
HRW Automotive Mini Stocks
Tyler Lafantaisie took his third consecutive Mini Stock win last Friday and leads the championship standings, but he and the other top contenders will now be confronted with handicapping starting this Friday. Nick Erskine is the only other Mini Stock driver with three top fives to start the season and sits second in the standings, followed by Jason Tolton, defending champ Dusty DeBoer, and Tristan DaSilva
