OHSWEKEN, Ont. (July 19, 2018) – Ohsweken Speedway officials are pleased to announce this week’s recipient of the Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Performer of the Week award is Jacob Dykstra and the No. 5D Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Car team.

The weekly award showcases a driver or team that exhibits outstanding effort and performance during Friday Night Excitement events at Ohsweken Speedway.

Last Friday’s Strickland’s GMC Sponsor and Kid’s Bike Night turned out to be an exciting night for the 15-year-old Dykstra from Port Colborne, Ont..

Caleb Wood and Dykstra started on the front row and led the field of 24 cars to the green flag for the 20-Lap Feature. Wood stayed low to take the lead, but by the time they had completed the second lap, Dykstra had taken over the lead and proceeded to lead the field by a straightaway.

A caution was thrown on lap four when Lucas Smith broke on the back straightaway. The restart saw Dykstra, Jesse Costa, Wood, Hannah Ferrell and Brad Herron in the top five. Dykstra took the high side to gain the lead once again and continued to lead despite another caution and restart on lap 12.

With six laps to go, Dykstra had the lead by several car lengths with Costa and Holly Porter battling for the second position.

The caution flag flew on lap 15 and lap 17 but Dykstra maintained the lead on the restarts and furious action was taking place behind him with Costa, Porter and Shone Evans racing side by side for second. Dykstra’s nose wing had dipped down but that did not stop the grade nine graduate from hanging on for his very first victory in the Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Car division.

Jacob, who’s father Dave Dykstra is a former 360 Sprint Car driver, is currently in his second season in the Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint class and expressed his gratitude to his Dad who gave up his ride to make it all possible. Congratulations to Jacob Dykstra and the No. 5D team on their first win and best wishes for continued success for the remainder of the 2018 season.
