OHSWEKEN, Ont. (July 12, 2018) – Ohsweken Speedway officials are pleased announce this week’s recipient of the Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Performer of the Week award is Ken Sargent and the No. 25 Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stock team.
The weekly award showcases a driver or team that exhibits outstanding effort and performance during the Friday Night Excitement events at Ohsweken Speedway.
With a full field of competitive Thunder Stocks in the field on O’Neils/Case IH Frankie Turkey Memorial Night, Ken Sargent of Port Colborne started in the 11th position in his No. 25 Camaro for the 20-Lap feature. Jay Liverance took the early lead over Donny Lampman and Kasey Huffman but Sargent stayed low and made his way to the third spot by lap five with Ryan Dinning now in the lead and Liverance in second.
A caution on lap 7 when Liverance went around in turn one effectively put Sargent in second right behind his running mate, Dinning. Some exciting side-by-side racing and rubbing ensued between Sargent and Dinning with a fast-moving Chris Hale now in third. With ten laps to go, Sargent took the lead, leaving Dinning and Hale to battle for the second spot and Logan Shwedyk, Rob Hoskins and Ryan Beagle closing in.
Lap 15 saw a caution thrown for Aaron Rewutzsky, who found himself pointed the wrong way in turn three and four and Zach Bleich who’d gone around on the back straight away. A strong restart kept Sargent in the lead, but he was closely followed by Hale, Beagle, Dinning and Shwedyk. Hale tried to take Sargent on the bottom without success and then tried the top but Sargent continued to hold Hale off.
A final caution on lap 18 saw a single file restart with the veteran driver holding off his competitors to claim his 135th career win and first victory of the 2018 season.
Ken Sargent has a long and storied career of championships in the Pro-Stock and Street Stock classes at both Merrittville and Humberstone Speedways. Sargent took a two-year hiatus before coming back to the Thunder Stock division at Ohsweken Speedway in 2017. Congratulation to Ken Sargent and the No. 25 Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stock team, we wish you continued success for the remainder of the 2018 season
