OHSWEKEN, Ont. (August 16, 2023) – Treyten Lapcevich picked up his second consecutive Pinty’s 100 victory on Wednesday night at Ohsweken Speedway, while Mike Bowman swept both Sit’N Bull Tire Sprint Car Shootout races.
NASCAR Pinty’s Series
The Pinty’s 100 saw Treyten Lapcevich and D.J Kennington start on the front row of the 23 car NASCAR Pinty’s Series stock car field. Lapcevich quickly put a large lead over the field, and by lap eleven he already had a four second lead. The rest of the pack were racing hard, at some points even going four wide through the corners. However, it was all Lapcevich as he finished stage one in first.
Stage two was just like the first stage, with Lapcevich leading by a fair amount. However, Thomas Nepveu was a standout in the field as he began to come to grips with the dirt track style of racing and gained time on the top three. With eleven laps left to go in the stage, the main battle could be found between youngster Kyle Steckly and veteran Kennington for the second position. Lapcevich finished the stage in first with Steckly in second and Kennington third.
The final stage saw Steckly turn up the wick and apply pressure to Lapcevich. Steckly’s hard racing was rewarded when Lapcevich had a moment with lap traffic and lost the lead. Steckly became the second leader of the race, albeit only for one lap before Lapcevich reclaimed the top spot. Lapcevich wasn’t challenged for the rest of race as he put a sizable lead over Steckly again, leading 99 laps out of the 100. Lapcevich crossed the finish line first, winning the Pinty’s 100 for the second year in a row. Steckly finished in second, Andrew Ranger third, J.P. Bergeron took a career-best finish of fourth, and D.J. Kennington rounded out the top five in his 200th Pinty’s Series start.
Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Cars
Mitch Brown started on pole alongside Nick Sheridan to take the green flag for the 25 lap 360 Sprint Car A-Main. Despite Sheridan’s best efforts, he only led the first seven laps before Mike Bowman moved up from his row three starting spot to claim the lead for himself. NASCAR Truck Series regular Stewart Friesen slotted himself into the second position, setting chase to Bowman. However, Bowman opened the margin from Friesen by over four seconds.
Friesen gave it all he had to overtake Bowman, but it wasn’t in the cards for him as he ran out of laps to do so. Bowman for the second time won the event in dominating fashion, winning the $10,000 grand prize from Sit’N Bull Tire. Friesen, row eight starter Matt Farnham, Liam Martin, and Cory Turner rounded out the top five. Bowman now leads the Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Car championship standings over Ryan Turner by 16 points.
Oakwood Transport Action Sprint Tour West
Jesse Costa and Matt Billings brought the 24 car field to the green flag for the 25 lap Crate Sprint Car A-Main. Costa set the pace as he led the opening laps, encountering traffic by lap eight. The race came to halt when the red flag was thrown due to a tangle between Larry Gledhill and Steve Murdock which sent Murdock flipping violently. Murdock emerged from the wreck unharmed.
After the restart Mike Bowman was able to chase down Costa and overtake him with a slide job. Bowman drove away from the pack, building a three second lead. He cruised into victory lane winning the event for the second consecutive time and picking up the $5,000 grand prize from Sit’N Bull Tire. Next to finish were Costa in second, Billings third, Mack DeMan fourth, and Rob Neely fifth. DeMan now leads the Strickland’s Crate Sprint Car championship standings over Costa by one point.
