LUCAS SMITH WINS ON HALLOWEEN IN AUGUST NIGHT; REMAINING FEATURES POSTPONED DUE TO RAIN

Rained Out Features Rescheduled for August 18 and 25

By Clayton Johns

OHSWEKEN, Ont. – August 11, 2017 – A total of 128 cars filled the pit area at Ohsweken Speedway for Halloween in August presented by Renway Energy featuring the Art Hill Memorial. The Ohsweken Junior Fan Club stole the show with dozens of kids turning out in costume for the special Halloween-themed night.

On the racetrack, Lucas Smith found his way to Victory Lane in the Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Bomber Feature. Unfortunately, it was the only Feature completed as rain fell to wash out the remaining four Features.

With preliminary and qualifying competition already complete for all divisions, the remaining Feature races have been rescheduled. Features for the Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Cars and Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks will be run on Friday, August 18. The HRW Automotive Mini Stocks’ 42-lap Art Hill Memorial will be contested on Friday, August 25 along with the make-up race for the Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Cars.

Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Bombers (21 Entries)

Jared Bodnar and Zach Buchwald led the 20-car Bomber Feature to the line. Bodnar jumped out to an early advantage before he was slowed by a caution on lap two when Jake Maas stopped on the front straightaway. The division point leader, Lucas Smith, used the opportunity to his advantage as he darted to the lead past Bodnar.

Bodnar faded over the next four laps as Paul Longboat, Dustin Longboat, Jerry Burnham and Cody Sommerville all got by to relegate him outside the top-five. Smith had built a convincing lead throughout the lapped traffic with a smooth and consistent pace. Without another caution, it was a gap that neither Paul or Dustin Longboat could overcome as they settled for second and third, respectively, while Smith extended his point lead with another win. Sommerville was fourth, while Bodnar raced his way back to the final spot in the top-five.
