OHSWEKEN, Ont. (July 4, 2019) – Ohsweken Speedway officials are pleased to announce the Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Performer of the Week for June 28 is Paul Klager and the No.1eh Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Car team. The weekly award showcases a driver or team that exhibits outstanding effort and performance during the Friday Night Excitement events at Ohsweken Speedway.
Club 54 Racing presented Sponsor night which saw Hannah Ferrell and Paul Klager lead the field to the green of the 20-lap feature. The start saw the field run three-wide before a caution was thrown in the first lap when Eric Gledhill spun in turn three. The restart saw Klager gain the lead over Ferrell as a red flag came out when Derek Lemyre and Johnny Miller made contact that caused Miller to roll in corner four. Miller was unhurt but his car was towed and unable to finish the race.
The single-file restart put Klager in front, followed by Ferrell, Jesse Costa, Liam Martin and Lemyre. Klager jumped out to a fast lead over the pack for two laps before a second red flag came out on lap four when Josh Hill, Shane Stickel, Blaine Barrow and Jesse McDonald all came into contact on the front straightaway sending McDonald and Stickel airborne into a vicious flip. The drivers were able to walk away but Hill, Stickel and McDonald both saw their nights finished.
Klager held the lead on the restart over Ferrell and Costa who were battling hard for the second position with Liam Martin and Nick Sheridan close behind. A lap seven caution brought the field to a halt when Gledhill had a flat tire and was removed from the track. Klager maintained the lead on the restart and by lap 10 was leading by several car lengths.
Klager moved easily through lapped traffic and put half a straightaway between him, Costa, Sheridan, Martin and Ferrell. Costa saw his second spot slip away when Lofton Schuts blew his motor in front of him allowing Sheridan and Martin to race into second and third respectively. Klager, The Beamsville Bullet, handily drove to his first career Crate Sprint Car win for a trip to Mister Transmission Victory Lane with Sheridan, Martin, Costa and Ferrell rounding out the top five. Congratulations to Paul Klager and his team on their first Sprint Car victory.
Ohsweken Speedway returns to action on Friday, July 5 for Frankie Turkey Memorial night presented by O’Neil’s Farm Equipment and Case IH. All four of Ohsweken’s weekly divisions will be in action, including the Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Cars, Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Cars, Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks and HRW Automotive Mini Stocks.
