OHSWEKEN, Ont. (September 8, 2022) – The 25th season of Friday Night Excitement at Ohsweken Speedway continues this Friday, September 9 when Qwick Wick Fire Starter presents presents RoC vs. DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds, plus DIRTcar 358 Modifieds, and Championship Friday for Ohsweken’s Stock Car divisions.
Season championships will be decided for the Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks and HRW Automotive Mini Stocks on Friday. Both divisions have run weekly at Ohsweken since the track first opened in 1996, and several drivers have a chance to add to their legacies.
Ryan Beagle got the best of Dave Bailey last Friday with a late pass to win the Thunder Stock A-Main, but Bailey has a 40 point lead over Beagle in the championship standings. Bailey can clinch his sixth Ohsweken title by finishing 19th or better on Friday night. The race for the third spot in the standings is very close, with Trevor DeBoer currently three points ahead of Chris Hale. Mark Fawcett currently holds the final spot in the top five, but Kyle Wert is just six points behind Fawcett.
Tyler Lafantaisie has already clinched his second HRW Automotive Mini Stock championship, but plenty of other spots are still up for grabs. Fabio Olivieri, Dusty DeBoer, Nick Erskine, and Tim DeBoer make up the remainder of the top five.
The Sportsman Modified event brings together the Race of Champions Dirt 602 Sportsman Modified Series and the DIRTcar Sportsman Series – West Canada tour. The race is important for both championship points chases as the season winds to a close. Cody McPherson won the RoC event at Ohsweken on August 12, and also has a DIRTcar win at Humberstone on his resume this season. Brad Rouse also has a DIRTcar win under his belt this year, which came in May at Merrittville.
The 358 Modifieds will be competing at Ohsweken for the third time this season on Friday. Mat Williamson and Gary Lindberg claimed wins on June 10 and July 1 respectively, and both have enjoyed fine seasons at other tracks in the region as well.
Race time is 7:30PM on Friday, September 9. Adult grandstand admission is $20 on Friday, while Senior (65+) and Youth (13-17) admission is $15, and Kids (0-12) are FREE. Please visit www.ohswekenspeedway.ca for more information.
