OHSWEKEN, Ont. (August 22, 2018) – Ohsweken Speedway officials are pleased to announce this week’s recipient of the Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Performer of the Week award is the “Straight Shooter” Scott Kreutter and the No. 49 Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Car team from Alden, NY.
The weekly award showcases a driver or team that exhibits outstanding effort and performance during Friday Night Excitement events at Ohsweken Speedway.
Jibs Action Sports night saw 25 drivers start in the 25-lap Feature of the Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprints Cars versus the Southern Ontario Sprints race.
With a first-place finish in Heat Race 2, Scott Kreutter started on the inside of row two with Steve Lyons on his outside, right behind front row starters Adam West and Mack DeMan who paced the field to a double green flag start. Before a lap could be completed, both Mike Thorne and Scott Burke experienced violent flips in turn one that left both uninjured but ended their nights.
As they were called for a full restart, West pulled off and opened the inside pole position for Kreutter with DeMan on his outside. As they took the green, Kreutter went to the top with DeMan driving to the bottom. Kreutter quickly took the lead and raced to a several car length lead by the fourth lap.
A single-file restart after a yellow flag on lap five saw Kreutter, Mikey Kruchka, DeMan, Dylan Westbrook and Lyons all racing for the front with Kreutter successfully holding off the field on the slick track. As Kreutter worked the outside through lapped traffic, DeMan, Westbrook, Kruchka and Lyons gave chase with some furious racing and exchanging of positions.
A late caution at lap 23 when Jim Huppunen spun in corner three set up an exciting finish with DeMan looking to take the lead away from Kreutter. The restart saw Kreutter tuck in low and pull away to maintain the lead as Westbrook and DeMan raced side by side behind him. Kreutter stayed out front and claimed his first checkered flag and victory at Ohsweken with Dylan Westbrook, Mack DeMan, Mikey Kruchka and Steve Lyons rounding out the top-five.
Congratulations to Scott Kreutter of the No. 49 Hoddick Racing Team on their first win. We wish them continued success for the remainder of the 2018 season.
