OHSWEKEN, Ont. (May 30, 2025) – The Empire Super Sprints series returned to Ohsweken on Friday night; Nick Sheridan took the ESS series win, while Brett Stratford, Ryan Beagle, and Dusty DeBoer also took A-Main wins.

Empire Super Sprints
Nick Sheridan and Shawn Donath brought the 26 car field to green for the 25 lap ESS A-Main. Donath quickly pounced on the lead over Sheridan. Two caution flags occurred in the race, with Mike Bowman and Glenn Styres tangling up on lap six which saw Bowman sustain enough damage to retire from the race. The second caution came about after the restart with Skyler Evans going for a spin.

Traffic became a factor and both Sheridan and Quebec racer Jordan Poirier overtook Donath in the closing laps. Sheridan went on to claim his first ESS win, with Poirier settling for second. Rounding out the top five were Dylan Swiernik in third, Dylan Westbrook fourth, and Darren Dryden fifth.

The win was also Sheridan’s first in a full-length 360 Sprint Car A-Main at Ohsweken; he claimed a Twin 15 win on Northern Sprint Car Nationals weekend in 2024. A stellar field of 35 cars attempted to qualify for the first 360 Sprint Car A-Main of the Ohsweken season.

Strickland’s Crate Sprint Cars
Steve Murdock and Brett Stratford brought the field to the green flag for the 20 lap Crate Sprint Car A-Main. The start of the race came to a halt as Tom Pellezari spun to a stop in turn two. The restart was successful, seeing Stratford take a commanding lead over the field. Stratford lost the lead on lap fourteen as he drifted up and over the cushion between turns three and four, allowing Murdock to regain the lead once again.

Murdock had to contend with very heavy traffic; this reeled Stratford back to touching distance. A late race caution flag caused a three lap dash to the finish which ultimately had Stratford overtake Murdock for the win. Murdock settled for a second place finish, while Jacob Dykstra took the final podium step. Logan Shwedyk and Holly Porter rounded out the top five.

Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks
Ryan Beagle started on pole with Mike Thorne next to him for the 20 lap Thunder Stock A-Main. Reigning Thunder Stock champion Beagle led the opening laps while title contending Dave Bailey was nipping at his heels following close behind. Beagle and Bailey were swapping the lead as they raced door-to-door until a caution came out on lap 17 when Keith Dale spun to a stop.

Bailey went off to the pits during the caution, sacrificing his second place to Mike Klazinga who was enjoying a solid race running firmly in the top three. With just three laps left go, Klazinga gave it his all to beat the champion, but it wasn’t enough as Beagle held him off to win. Klazinga took a well-deserving second place with Trevor DeBoer in third, Kyle Wert fourth, and Zack Bleich fifth.

Insta-Insulation Mini Stocks
Alex Riley started on pole alongside Dusty DeBoer to take the green flag for the 15 lap Mini Stock A-Main. Dusty DeBoer took the opening lap lead over Riley. Dusty’s brother Tim DeBoer caught up with Dusty after starting third on the grid to battle for the lead; they both raced door-to-door as if they were welded together. The action stopped when Jason Tolton suffered a mechanical failure and stopped on the track on lap five, which brought out a caution flag.

The restart however brought on one of the best racing moments that the Mini Stocks division had ever performed; for the final ten laps, the top six drivers raced bumper to bumper, even bump-drafting on the straights as they jockeyed for positions. It all came down to the final lap as the leaders drag raced to the finish line off turn four to a grandstand finish, with 0.305 seconds separating first to fifth. The top five finishing order were Dusty DeBoer in first, Tim DeBoer second, Bill Pearsall third, Gillian Hils fourth, and Mason Anderson fifth.
