OHSWEKEN, Ont. (September 2, 2022) – The 25th season of Friday Night Excitement at Ohsweken Speedway continues this Friday, September 2 when EPIC Racewear presents Back to School Backpack Night, plus Championship Friday for the Sprint Car divisions.

Kids in attendance will have a chance to win a brand new Ohsweken Speedway backpack filled with school supplies and goodies; thanks to our race teams for helping fill those backpacks! The Backpack program is an exciting way for kids to take the race track back to school with them next week.

Season championships will be decided for the Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Cars and Strickland’s Crate Sprint Cars on Friday. The Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks and HRW Automotive Mini Stocks will contest the penultimate round of their season championship.

Cory Turner has a 33 point lead over Liam Martin in the 360 Sprint Car standings heading into Friday’s race, while Ryan Turner and Mitch Brown are tied for third, 18 points behind Martin. Cory can clinch his first track championship by finishing 15th or better in the A-Main. The top 15 in points will get a share of the points fund supported by Kool Kidz Ice & Water and Corr/Pak Merchandising, and positions are still up for grabs.

The Strickland’s Crate Sprint Car championship is still very close, with Lucas Smith 16 points ahead of Eric Gledhill. Brett Stratford and Jesse Costa are tied for third, just 11 points behind Gledhill. Smith can clinch the championship by finishing seventh or better in Friday’s A-Main. Smith was the track champion in the Bomber division in 2017, however all the drivers left in contention for the title are searching for their first Crate Sprint Car championship.

Dave Bailey has the lead in the Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stock standings heading into Friday’s event, while Ryan Beagle, Chris Hale, Trevor DeBoer, and Kyle Wert make up the rest of the top five. Meanwhile, Tyler Lafantaisie has a commanding lead in the HRW Automotive Mini Stock standings, followed by Fabio Olivieri, Nick Erskine, Dusty DeBoer, and Tim DeBoer.

Race time is 7:30PM on Friday, September 2. Adult grandstand admission is $20 on Friday, while Senior (65+) and Youth (13-17) admission is $15, and Kids (0-12) are FREE. Please visit www.ohswekenspeedway.ca for more information.
