by Ken Pelkie (Jun. 05, 2009) – Another action packed racing program at Ohsweken Speedway had the crowd on the edge of their seats Friday night and when the final checker flag waved at 10:35 PM, Tom Huppunen and the Best Western Cairn Croft Hotel sponsored entry were standing in the Engine Pro Racing Victory Circle for the second time in 2009. Jared Zimbardi and Kevin Job followed Huppunen to the line with Mikey Kruchka and Dave Dykstra rounding out the top five.
The twenty lap event was slowed on two occasions with minor incidents however earlier in the evening the machine of John Riegling of Chatham, Ontario was destroyed in a violent series of flips at the exit of turn two. Although the equipment will go to the scrap yard, Riegling emerged uninjured thanks mainly to his use of the finest personal safety equipment available. Heat races for the twenty-five cars in attendance were won by Kevin Job, Brad Malloy, and Dain Naida.
Thunder Stock action continues to thrill the fans as Brad Herron outdistanced Shayne Pierce and Billy Bleich in the 20 lap feature event. Mitchell Brown survived post race tech to claim yet another win on this young season. The Brantford star was chased to the line by Chase Hess and Kevin Hilborn. Bomber action saw Jessie MacDonald visit victory lane as he continues to enjoy a successful start to the 2009 racing campaign.
Friday Night Thunder returns to Ohsweken next week, June 12 as Engine Pro Racing presents the Michigan based ASCS Sprints On Dirt sprint cars plus the ESSO Thunder Stocks, ESSO Mini-Stocks, and Bombers! Affordable family entertainment just a short drive away from most mid-western Ontario locations, Ohsweken Speedway is the place to be for your weekly thrill show. Adult General Admission for this Special Sprints On Dirt event is just $15, while Seniors and Students are $8, and kids 12 and under are FREE! Please visit HYPERLINK http://www.OhswekenSpeedway.com for more information. Gates open at 6:00 PM with the first race taking the green flag at 7:45.
