OHSWEKEN, Ont. (August 2, 2018) – Ohsweken Speedway officials are pleased to announce this week’s recipient of the Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Performer of the Week award is Trevor DeBoer and the No. 23 Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stock team.
The weekly award showcases a driver or team that exhibits outstanding effort and performance during Friday Night Excitement events at Ohsweken Speedway.
Last Friday, Pinty’s Delicious Foods Hot Rod Night included a 20-lap Thunder Stock feature that had been rescheduled from the rain-shortened event on Jibs Action Sports night July 20.
DeBoer lined up in the ninth position for the start of the race that saw Jay Liverance and Mike Klazinga lead the field to the green flag. Two quick yellow flags saw Chris Dickie take the lead with Blake Bomberry Jr, DeBoer, Chase Hess and Bill Bleich giving chase. DeBoer dove to the bottom and quickly moved into the third spot behind Bomberry and Dickie.
With 14 laps to go, DeBoer moved into second and raced side-by-side for several laps with the leader Dickie. Bleich raced into third at the halfway point and the battle ensued. DeBoer briefly lost the second spot when he got in behind Huffman and Bleich went to the top. He regained the runner-up position at lap 15 and the side-by-side race with Dickie holding the lead.
A late caution with four laps left saw Dickie get split and lose the lead on the restart when DeBoer went to the topside and Bleich hugged the bottom. DeBoer had opened a multi-car length lead when Bailey took the high side and the second spot away from Dickie with two laps to go. DeBoer held his competitors off to claim the checkers and his first victory in the No. 23 Camaro, followed by Dave Bailey, Chris Dickie, Bill Bleich and Christopher Hale.
DeBoer claimed the checkered flag following his first Thunder Stock Feature win and climbed the fence to share his exciting victory with his family who were cheering him on from the grandstands. With his first victory, Trevor rounds out the DeBoer family trifecta along with his brothers Dusty and Tim who earned their first wins earlier this season in the Mini Stock division.
Congratulations to Trevor DeBoer and the No. 23 Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stock team on their first win and wish them continued success for the remainder of the 2018 season.
