OHSWEKEN, Ont. (July 5, 2024) – Strickland’s Brantford GM and Hunsinger’s Plumbing, HVAC, & Electrical presented Drive Safe, Ride Safe, Race Safe Bicycle Night at Ohsweken Speedway on Friday; Dylan Westbrook, Brent Begolo, Dave Bailey, and Jeremy Cooper took A-Main wins.

Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Cars
Cory Turner and Eric Gledhill brought the 22 car field to the green flag for the 360 Sprint Car A-Main. Cory Turner set the pace, leading the opening laps while drivers in the midfield were battling for positions. Points leader Dylan Westbrook hunted down Cory Turner for the lead on lap seven, just before a caution came out due to Todd Hoddick spinning to a stop off turn one. Westbrook assumed the lead once more after the restart, quickly building a gap of over eight seconds to second and third place runners Cory Turner and Ryan Turner respectively.

After it was all said and done, Westbrook found himself back in victory lane picking up his fifth win of the season and furthering his points lead. Rounding out the top five were Cory Turner in second, Ryan Turner third, Eric Gledhill fourth, and Darren Dryden fifth. Gledhill set a new track record of 13.010 seconds in hot laps earlier in the evening, besting the fastest recorded 360 Sprint Car lap in track history set by Tom Huppunen in 2009.

Strickland’s Crate Sprint Cars
Sheldon Bender started on pole with Brent Begolo next to him for the 20 lap Crate Sprint Car A-Main. Begolo rocketed ahead of Bender, quickly becoming the favourite to win as his pace could not be matched by the field running a higher downforce setup. A.J. Lewis spun to a stop on lap four, bringing out the caution. Begolo once again got away from the pack unscathed, however.

Lap ten saw a red flag incident as multiple drivers were involved in an incident in which Steve Murdock’s car took significant damage; all the involved drivers were unharmed. Two more cautions came out in the latter half of the race but Begolo still remained in the lead, holding off the previous week’s winner Brett Stratford despite the restarts. Begolo went on to lead all 20 laps, picking up his second career Crate Sprint Car win. Next to cross the line were Stratford in second, Ryan Fraser third, Johnny Miller fourth, and Bender fifth.

Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks
Aidan Nigh started on pole alongside Kyle Andress to take the green flag for the 20 lap Thunder Stock A-Main. Mike Thorne made quick work of the drivers up front, leading the first lap after starting fifth on the grid. Lap five had a new race leader as Trevor DeBoer passed Thorne. Tim Phalen brought out the caution on lap nine, setting up a restart.

Dave Bailey took full advantage of the restart, picking up vital positions in just a few laps and becoming the third driver to lead the race. A five lap dash to the finish was set up due to a late-race caution. Bailey was determined to win the race as he successfully held off the field and ended his winless streak with a well-deserved victory, the 40th of his Ohsweken Thunder Stock career. Joining Bailey on the podium in second and third were Kyle Wert and Ryan Beagle respectively, while Ron Loggie and DeBoer rounded out the top five.

HRW Automotive Mini Stocks
The front row of the grid featured Grayden Lyons and Jeremy Cooper to begin the 15 lap Mini Stock A-Main. Cooper overtook Lyons, leading the first lap. A battle for the lead ensued as Alex Riley tried to overtake Cooper, with Riley getting the upper hand on lap four becoming the new race leader. Lap seven proved to be treacherous as four cautions came out before seeing the next official lap. A number of drivers were involved in crashes, and tempers flared.

The final laps saw Riley and Cooper trading the lead multiple times, however Cooper led the penultimate lap and held on to take his first Ohsweken Speedway win. Riley finished in a strong second place and picked up valuable points, followed by Wayde Thorne in third, Gillian Hils fourth, and Dusty DeBoer fifth.
