OHSWEKEN, Ont. (June 12, 2026) – Plazek Auto Recyclers and Braemar Buildings presented the Southern Ontario Sprints series on Friday at Ohsweken Speedway. Dylan Westbrook, Mack DeMan, Dave Bailey, Rob Pietz, and Jens Mortensen took victories.

Southern Ontario Sprints Series
Jacob Dykstra started on pole with Darren Dryden next to him for the 25 lap Southern Ontario Sprints A-Main. Dykstra led the opening lap until Dylan Westbrook passed for the lead on lap two. Dykstra began to encounter traffic by lap five, having built a lead of more than 1.5 seconds over Dykstra. A red flag came out on lap six due to contact between Kevin Pauls and Aaron Turkey in turn one which caused both cars to flip into the barrier. Both drivers were shaken but unharmed.

The race resumed with Westbrook continuing to lead. Dykstra was running hard in an effort to catch Westbrook, but hit the front stretch wall as he was navigating traffic and flipped, bringing out the red flag once more. Dykstra was dejected, but able to walk away from the wreck. Westbrook stayed up front after the restart and picked up the win, the 100th of his 360 Sprint Car career overall. Next to finish were Darren Dryden in second, Eric Gledhill third, Cory Turner fourth, and Nick Sheridan fifth from row seven.

Strickland’s Crate Sprint Cars
Steve Murdock and Austin Roes brought the 28 car field to the green flag for the Crate Sprint Car A-Main. The first lap could not be completed as Trevor Young, Jeremy May, and Curtis Gartly flipped on the back stretch after contact. Cory Whittam led for the first lap after the restart until Roes claimed the lead for himself the next lap. Roes began to encounter traffic before half race distance and spun in turn four trying to lap Broden Weiler.

Murdock inherited the lead on the restart and led up until the yellow flag reappeared due to a Weiler spin with just eight laps left to go. Mack DeMan launched away on the restart and raced himself into victory lane. The victory moved DeMan back into a tie with Jesse Costa atop Ohsweken’s all-time Crate Sprint Car win list. Rounding out the top five were Martin in second, Brett Stratford third, Costa fourth, and Murdock fifth.

Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks
The front row of the grid featured Dylan Peckham and Keith Dale to begin the 20 Lap Thunder Stock A-Main. Mike Klazinga led the opening laps comfortably until the yellow flag came out due to Zach Bleich slowing on the back stretch on lap four.

A second yellow flag came out right after the restart, but it was Ron Loggie who led after the second restart, putting on a show for the fans as he was holding off the field. Dave Bailey was not to be denied though, and finally made a pass for the win the just two laps left to go. Loggie took a well deserved second place finish after holding off Ryan Beagle, who settled for the final podium step. Rounding out the top five were Trevor DeBoer fourth, and Klazinga fifth. Bailey, Beagle, and DeBoer all came from well back on the starting grid to claim their finishes.

Vintage Modifieds
Jens Mortensen started on pole alongside Steve Longo to take the green flag for the 20 Lap Vintage Modifieds A-Main. Billy Montreuil led the opening laps as this nostalgic class roared down the track. Rob Pietz chased down Montreuil for the lead, setting up the pass on lap three.

Pietz planted his foot through the floor as he started to lap cars by the halfway point of the race. The rest of the drivers had no answer to Pietz’s torrid pace as he crossed the finish line with a 13.1 second lead over the field. The rest of the competitors battled amongst themselves, racing clean and green with no caution flags. Next to see the checkers were Dave Small second, Mortensen third, Montreuil forth, and Tim Natalino fifth. Pietz was also credited with the win in the 70’s-80’s division, while Mortensen took the honours for the 30’s-60’s division.
