CORR/PAK MERCHANDISING 360 SPRINT CARS (22 entries)
Jeremy Hughes and Shane Ross started on the front row for the 20 lap 360 Sprint Car feature, but the race was quickly halted when Dave Dykstra went for a rough ride in turn 1. Ross took the lead early after the restart, while Mitch Brown moved into 2nd to set the stage for a race-long fight for the win. Ross opened a lead over Brown, with Keith Dempster holding 3rd. Jim Huppunen and Paige Polyak both moved past Dempster just after the halfway mark and began a spirited joust for the 3rd spot, while Brown started to cut into the lead Ross had built. Brown was within a car length of Ross several times in traffic before a yellow flag came out when Todd Hoddick’s right rear tire exploded on lap 15.
Ross restarted with the lapped car of Adam West between himself and Mitch Brown, but Brown was quickly able to get by West and go after Ross. A move to the middle groove paid off for Brown, as he was able to get around Ross exiting turn 2 on lap 18 and go on to an emotional win. Friday’s race was the first for the Browns since losing family patriarch and local racing icon Harold Brown to cancer on July 13. Ross settled for the runner-up spot, followed by Huppunen, Polyak, and Jeremy Hughes with a career-best 5th place.

AFFORDABLE TOWING & RECOVERY THUNDER STOCKS (44 entries)
A huge field of 44 Thunder Stocks signed in to go after the prestigious win in the Brock Leonard Memorial 50, and an $1,800 payday thanks to Gale’s Auto Aftermarket. Time trials, heat races, and the B-Main whittled the starting field to 28 for the 50 lap A-Feature. Dave Bailey, Wyatt Van Wart, and Lee Winger eventually became the three main contenders for the win. Bailey and Van Wart raced wheel-to-wheel for the lead during the middle portion of the race until Winger took command with 12 laps left.
Winger’s car began to emit smoke around the same time as he took the lead, but he and his car survived a tangle with a lapped car and several restarts late in the race to take the win. Bailey was not as fortunate, and fell out of the race with transmission problems just 3 laps from the end. Van Wart settled for the runner-up spot, followed by Dave Silverthorn, Jr., Chris Dickie, and 26th starter Jack Myers.
*At press time, A-Feature results are still unofficial, pending further technical inspection.
