July 15, 2026, OHSWEKEN, ON – Ryan Newman’s list of sprint car racing accomplishments are even more impressive than his Nascar statistics which include a Daytona 500 win. He also won the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
He will dazzle fans at Ohsweken Speedway when he makes his World of Outlaws Sprint Car debut at the Six Nations Showdown.
Nicknamed the Rocket Man from South Bend, Indiana, Newman grew up in open-wheel racing country. He cut his teeth at the most treacherous venues in the gnarliest race cars on earth.
While the achievement has been matched in years since Newman was the first racer to win a feature event in all three major USAC National divisions – midgets, sprint cars, and silver crown cars. His versatility and talent behind the wheel launched him to Nascar success and a shining professional career.
What Newman never did was compete in a World of Outlaws sprint car. Not even once.
“Ryan Newman is the ultimate professional racer,” said Ohsweken Speedway General Manager Clinton Geoffrey. “He was renowned for being the most difficult driver on track to pass, and his dirt roots make him a perfect fit to compete at Ohsweken Speedway.
“I was blown away when I heard he had never raced with the Outlaws. We are honoured to have him experience that at the Big O.”
Newman’s popularity soared for unfortunate reasons back in 2020 when he nearly lost his life in a last-lap crash during the Daytona 500. Newman needed to be extricated from the car, and the scene was as tragic as any seen in Nascar for decades.
The heartwarming picture of Newman barefooted – holding hands with each of his daughters as he left the hospital illustrated the human side of a sport dominated by racers willing to risk everything to chase glory. Newman didn’t just survive. He returned to racing with a vengeance.
This year marks one of his busier racing seasons since leaving Nascar full time. He ran the Little 500 at Anderson Speedway the night before the Indianapolis 500. It’s a gruelling 500-lap pavement sprint car race.
He is slated to compete in USAC Silver Crown races, Nascar Craftsman Series truck races, some Nascar Modified races all while supporting his daughter Brooklyn’s budding racing career.
Newman joins a star-studded entry list featuring Nascar standouts Christopher Bell, Stewart Friesen, the Outlaws themselves, and numerous local challengers.
Tickets are selling fast for each of the two nights of competition, and camping is nearly sold out.
Event information, tickets, and camping reservations can be made by visiting www.OhswekenSpeedway.ca . Racing starts at 7:30 pm both nights, but you will want to arrive early to experience the full spectacle of the Greatest Show on Dirt at the Big O.
